Fun in the sun

The weather was perfect for a round of golf with my girlfriend – sunny and about 23 degrees. She was out trying her new golf cart from Big Max Smart, in white, which is a good looking cart and compact when you have it in the car or store it. We teed out past noon and enjoyed a great round with a few bumps through the course.

I managed to score 38 points and she 30 points. This is my first round this year where I have matched or beaten my handicap. 🙂

The golf course at AAGC has improved a lot over the past month. Greens are now at a level where you can call them greens and not “burned ground”.

Two birdies (both par4) and five pars – that was a good round of golf.

Enjoy the summer

I got a new handicap but in the wrong direction

The new season started a while ago with a rusty swing and too few points. A round in 36 points is still MIA (missing in action) but I’m hoping for it to show up within the next month. My new handicap is 12.0 and the next time I get adjusted up to 12.1 I get an extra shot on the scorecard.

At the start of the season I thought about what to improve to get more consistent and came to the conclusion that my short game was too unstable. I’m talking about the low short game from 15 meters and to the green. I think that I have used the Phil flop shot style in situations where a low approach shot would be easier to handle and result in a better score. Now I just have to get the feel around green to get the ball closer to the pin.

The driver and 3-wood are pretty solid but I think that is because I try to use the right iron/wood which makes sense to use – and not to measure who can swing the biggest canon on each tee as I often see people do. Therefore the takeaway from the article is: Be realistic and use the club or iron that you can handle – if the driver always slices you should either leave it at home or get some pro-lessons.

Enjoy the game!

Finally I made it

It has been a while since I wrote my last post but time fly 🙂 I managed to play a good solid round of golf this Wednesday where I was able to beat my handicap – first time this year. I did 7 pars, a birdie and scored 37 stableford points (brutto: 85, net: 71). Last time I played this good was over a year ago when I did a round in 79 strokes. My hands are still over my head 🙂

I hadn’t played for two weeks because of work and the weather so I did not expect to be able to play this good but somehow a little bit of luck, a bucket of balls on the driving range and a few puts on the putting range did the job. Almost everything worked that day – a solid putter, good driving and perfect short game did the trick although there where some holes where I messed up and scored zero or one points. The score has given me a 2nd place in the Wednesday tournament – it will be great to pick up a few bottles of wine the next time. 🙂

I got a new gadget at my birthday. My girlfriend gave me a gps watch which can tell the distance from where I’m standing to the front, mid and  back of the green – that is so cool and usefully. I don’t have to go to my bag and take out a range finder or some other big gadget – I have it on me all the time on the course which means that it doesn’t take extra time using it. 🙂

Have a great season end.
